RT-PCR TEST

The RT-PCR (Reverse Transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction) test detects the unique genetic material (RNA) within the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19. This is done through a nasal or oropharyngeal swab.

The RT-PCR test is currently the gold standard for detecting the SARS-CoV-2 virus which is why it is the one required by many airlines, travel destinations, employers, etc.

INSURANCE

Please note that we are unable to bill insurance carriers directly for our services. However, you may easily seek reimbursement from your insurance carrier by filing a claim. We will happily provide you with a superbill, upon request, to accompany your claim. Reimbursement for testing usually requires a medical necessity and is not guaranteed.

Types of COVID-19 Tests

RT-PCR/Molecular Test
When is this test recommended?
  • People with symptoms of COVID-19
  • People who were close contacts to COVID-19
  • People without symptoms living/working in a high-risk setting who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response
How the test worksDetects genetic material (RNAwithin the COVID-19 virus
How the test is administeredSaliva, or swab from nose or throat
How long to get results25 minutes to 3 days, depending on the test
What the test doesChecks for active coronavirus infection
What a positive result means*A positive result means you have COVID-19. The test detected the COVID-19 virus.

  • You need to isolate and tell your close contacts to quarantine

NOTE: If you had COVID-19 within the past 90 days and you now have a positive test but no symptoms, talk with your doctor to see if you have COVID-19 again.

What a negative result means*A negative result means the test did not detect the virus at the time the test was taken.

A negative result can also happen if the test was taken too early or the test missed your infection.

Note: If you are a close contact to a person with COVID-19 you must remain under quarantine for the entire time because you may still be infected but it was too early for your test to be positive.

* No test for COVID-19 is perfect. Any test may produce:

  • False negative results
    • This means that the test result should be positive because you DO have COVID-19, but instead it comes back negative.
    • This may happen, for example, if the sample was not collected properly, the test was taken too soon, or the test didn’t perform well.
  • False positive results
    • This means that the test result should be negative because you DO NOT have COVID-19 but instead it comes back positive.
    • This may happen, for example, if the person tested is very unlikely to be infected and the test didn’t perform well.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

WHICH TEST DO I NEED TO TRAVEL?
The RT-PCR testing we offer is the most universally accepted test so far, though rapid antigen testing is being increasingly accepted. Each airline, state, country, etc. may have different requirements which are frequently evolving. Therefore, please verify these requirements prior to your visit and communicate them to us at your visit.
HOW ARE YOU KEEPING THE VISIT SAFE? DO YOU OFFER DRIVE-THRU TESTING?
VITALIZE has implemented strict safety protocols, guided by the CDC and LA County Department of Health’s recommendations.

Testing is performed outdoors (at the back of our clinic). We can also accommodate drive-thru testing so if you prefer to stay in your car please let us know and we will perform the test in our parking lot. Our staff is protected with personal protective equipment (PPE) and our clients are required to wear a mask and practice social distancing measures. All surfaces are cleaned regularly with hospital-grade cleaning supplies and disinfectants.

WILL GETTING THE VACCINE AFFECT MY TEST RESULTS?
Receiving the vaccine has not been shown to affect PCR or Antigen test results. However, antibodies may be detected on our antibody tests as a reflection of the body’s immune response.
CAN THE TEST DETECT ANTIBODIES WEEKS AFTER SYMPTOMS AND/OR RECOVERY? OR IS THERE A TESTING WINDOW?
Yes, research suggests that the antibodies may last in the body for approximately 4 months after infection. If you are looking to confirm that you have developed antibodies after receiving a vaccine, a Spike Protein antibody test would be more appropriate. These tests begin being accurate about 2 weeks after an infection or vaccination.
IS RAPID ANTIGEN TESTING ACCURATE?
Rapid antigen testing is most accurate in individuals experiencing symptoms within the first 5 days of symptom onset.
HOW IS YOUR PCR TESTING SO FAST AND ACCURATE?
We have a laboratory-grade RT-PCR/NAAT system on-site that is able to analyze specimens on-demand unlike large laboratories which have to accumulate big batches of specimens before processing them. This enables us to provide PCR results with high accuracy in as quickly as 40 minutes.
WHAT CERTIFICATIONS AND APPROVALS DOES YOUR FACILITY AND YOUR LAB TESTS HAVE?
We are a CLIA Certified point-of-care laboratory under CLIA# 05D2194377. All the testing options we offer have been issued Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) at the minimum. Our outside labs are also CLIA and CAP Certified.
DO YOU OFFER GROUP RATES & CORPORATE PRICING?

Yes, we offer group rates and corporate pricing for COVID testing for businesses, production companies, and organizations. Testing can be done at our clinic or at the place of choosing. Please contact us for more information.
